Tesla has moved the next-generation Roadster event from October 1 to October 15, 2026, after forecasters called for severe storms near Waco. The event has to be held outdoors because it includes the SpaceX thruster demonstration.

The Roadster event has a new date: Thursday, October 15, 2026. Tesla announced the change on September 28 in a post on X, explaining that it had been tracking the forecast with local meteorologists and that, because the event "can only be held outdoors," it made the call to reschedule. The original date was October 1. Additional details are promised.
Why the weather mattered
This is not a turntable reveal under stage lights. The headline of the night is the SpaceX-developed cold-gas thruster package, and the demonstration happens in the open air. Electrek reports the event is set for SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, near Waco, and that the forecast for October 1 showed an 82% chance of rain with thunderstorms and several inches of rainfall. Conditions were expected to improve within days.
Two weeks is a small price for doing it properly. A demo with spectators kept hundreds of yards back, in clear weather, is a far better first impression than a rushed one under a storm warning.
