The Roadster is real: Tesla kickflipped it over a Semi and landed on three trims
Tesla revealed the next-generation Roadster near Waco on October 15, 2026. The car jumped the entire Tesla lineup, including the 13.5-foot Semi, flipped mid-air on cold-gas thrusters and landed. Three trims, 300-plus miles of range, production in 2028.

Tesla revealed the second-generation Roadster tonight, and the car left the ground. At SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, near Waco, the Roadster drove at a line of parked Teslas, lit 10 cold-gas thrusters, rotated through the air and came down the other side. Tesla's own post called it a kickflip over the entire lineup, Semi included. The Semi is 13.5 feet tall. The car cleared it by close to double that.
If you watched the October 15 event live, you know the room noise. Here is what was actually announced.
The stunts
Two separate runs, and neither one had a person inside. The demo car was operated remotely.
The first was the inverted ramp. TechCrunch reports the Roadster used high-powered fans and thrusters to climb a ramp, go over, spin while upside down, and then ease itself down to a landing. The fans are not a gimmick. Lars Moravy, Tesla's VP of engineering, said the suction system pulls 2 G, which is enough to hold the car against a surface while it is stationary.
The second was the jump. The car went over a Cybercab, a Cybertruck, a Semi, a Model Y and a Model 3 in one pass, inverting itself in the air and using thrusters to set the landing. Musk's reaction afterward was four words: "Well, it worked."
How the thrusters work
Moravy put numbers on the package. Ten thrusters draw on 600 liters of compressed air, stored in carbon fiber overwrapped pressure vessels packed into what Tesla calls every usable void in the car. The air is rechargeable, including while driving.
The claim worth sitting with: Tesla says the thrusters produce 4 to 5 times the force the tires can put down. That is the whole idea. A tire has a traction limit, and thrust does not care about it. The thrusters also had to be redesigned to work in atmosphere instead of vacuum, which is a different problem than the one SpaceX normally solves.
Three trims
Electrek has the spec sheet Tesla posted after the stream. Thrust and Rocket are add-ons to the Performance car rather than separate vehicles.
- Performance. Two seats, road legal, active aero and a multi-mode suction system. 0-60 mph in under 1.6 seconds. Open by reservation.
- Thrust. Two seats, race focused, rear-mounted cold-gas thrusters. 0-60 mph in under 0.9 seconds. Limited release.
- Rocket. One seat, thrusters around the full perimeter for vertical and rotational movement. 0-60 mph in under 0.59 seconds, top speed over 230 mph. Invite only, and not approved for public roads.
Range is over 300 miles. Track Mode drops the car and deploys active wings driven by Optimus actuators, with downforce Tesla describes as approaching F1 levels.
The 2017 prototype promised 1.9 seconds to 60, 620 miles and a 2+2 cabin. The new car is quicker and smaller in every other dimension. That trade reads like a car that got built instead of a car that got specified.
The design is a wrap brief
This is the part that matters if you spend time in a wrap editor. The Roadster showed up in a paint Tesla calls Ano White, using coatings it compares to the ones that protect rockets. Hidden headlights. A taillight that runs the full width. Flush-mounted aero. Glass tinted to read like a spacesuit visor. Tesla named the SR-71 and the F-35 as references, and the car clearly sits in the same language as Cybertruck, Cybercab and Optimus.
Inside: a yoke on steer-by-wire, a center touchscreen, two smaller driver-facing displays, a fixed seat position and manual controls to save weight, over a structure of magnesium, titanium and carbon fiber.
There is no Roadster template in Paint Shop, because Tesla publishes wrap templates for the cars people own today. But the look travels. Hard panel breaks, a cold near-white base, one thin accent line doing the work of the full-length taillight, and matte against gloss instead of color against color. That brief works on a Model 3 Highland or a Cybertruck right now. Our wrap color guide covers why a near-white base needs an accent with some saturation in it to avoid going flat on a 3D render, which is exactly the problem Ano White solves with its coatings.
Price and timing
No price was announced for any trim. Reservations reopened with $5,000 due now, which Tesla calls fully refundable, and a further $45,000 due within 10 days or the reservation cancels. That $50,000 total matches the 2017 ask.
On production, Musk said "We enter production in 2028." He also called the car "the best of the last of the human-driven cars," which, with Cybercab heading the other way, is a fair description of what Tesla just put on a ramp.
FAQ
Did the Tesla Roadster really jump over a Semi? Yes. On October 15, 2026, near Waco, the Roadster jumped a line that included a Tesla Semi, a Cybertruck, a Cybercab, a Model Y and a Model 3, inverting in the air and landing on thrusters. The Semi is 13.5 feet tall.
How do the Roadster thrusters work? Ten cold-gas thrusters fed by 600 liters of compressed air held in carbon fiber pressure vessels. The air recharges, including while driving, and Tesla says the thrusters make 4 to 5 times the force the tires can.
How fast is the new Tesla Roadster? 0-60 mph in under 1.6 seconds for Performance, under 0.9 seconds for Thrust and under 0.59 seconds for Rocket, which tops out above 230 mph.
When does the Tesla Roadster go into production? Musk said 2028 at the reveal. No price has been announced for any trim.
Can I put a wrap on a Roadster? Not yet. Paint Shop templates exist for the cars Tesla ships today, so the Roadster look has to go on a Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X or Cybertruck for now.
