The six-seat Model Y L starts reaching US driveways this month

The biggest Model Y ever built is about to show up in American driveways. Tesla has started assigning delivery windows for the six-seat Model Y L, and the first US customers are being contacted for September deliveries, with later orders landing in October and November. It is the first time a three-row Tesla under $70,000 has existed, and the order book suggests people noticed.

The Model Y L went on sale in the US and Puerto Rico in July as a Launch Series at $61,990, which Electrek reported includes the $1,390 destination charge. Deliveries were always going to be a summer-into-fall affair, since the car is built at Giga Texas on a line that was still spinning up when orders opened.

What the L actually is

It is a Model Y with a longer wheelbase and a third row that adults can use. The wheelbase grows by about 150 mm and the overall length by about 179 mm, which is roughly seven inches, and every bit of it goes to the cabin. The seating is a 2+2+2 layout with a walk-through between the second-row captain's chairs, the arrangement that made the car a hit in China when it launched there in 2025.

Range is rated at 325 miles, which is more than the standard Model Y Premium AWD despite the extra size, because the L carries a slightly larger pack. Performance is close to the Premium AWD: figure about 4.6 seconds to 60 mph. It is not the Performance trim, and it is not trying to be. It is the family car.

Delivery windows so far

Windows have been rolling out by order date. Eletric Vehicles tracked the first batch: the earliest orders showed August 29 to September 26, the next group September 13 to September 30, and later orders October 7 to November 18. New orders placed now are showing December, and Sawyer Merritt noted on X that the 2026 US allocation is close to sold out.

If you ordered in the first week, your car is probably in the September group. If you order today, plan on the holidays.

What the Launch Series includes

Launch Series is Tesla's way of packaging the first production run. For the Model Y L it bundles a year each of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Supercharging and Premium Connectivity, a free choice of paint, interior and wheels, and the Launch Series extras: badging, floor mats, puddle lights, suede dash inserts and sill plates. The $61,990 figure is that car, all in. Tesla has not published pricing for a non-Launch-Series version yet, and the standard trims usually arrive once the first run is delivered.

Every Model Y variant that Tesla ships is a separate body in our studio, and the Model Y L has been one since the day the US order page opened. The longer roof and rear quarter change where a design lands, so the L uses its own template rather than the standard Juniper one. Pick it under Model Y when you open the studio and the 3D preview shows the stretched car, not an approximation.

The bigger picture

The Model Y is already the best-selling vehicle in the world. A version with a real third row opens it to the buyers who kept walking past it for a minivan or a three-row crossover, and the first-week sellout in the US says that group was waiting. Giga Texas building it alongside the Cybertruck and the Cybercab also means the plant is now producing four distinct bodies on one campus, which is its own kind of milestone.
