Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, beating the 461,974 consensus by 24,558 and drawing inventory down for a second straight quarter. Storage deployments reached 13.7 GWh. The full numbers, how they compare, and what comes next.
What this means for your wrap or lock chime: 478,237 of the 486,532 cars Tesla delivered this quarter were a Model 3 or a Model Y, about 98%. Every one of them can wear a custom Paint Shop wrap, and the studio has the template for each version built in.
Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026 and built 464,391, according to Tesla's production and deliveries report filed on October 2. That is 24,558 more than the 461,974 cars in the consensus Tesla compiled from 24 analysts, a beat of about 5.3%, per Not a Tesla App's same-day coverage and Electrek. Tesla also sold 22,141 more cars than it built.
The numbers
| Q3 2026 | Production | Deliveries |
|---|---|---|
| Model 3 and Model Y | 457,387 | 478,237 |
| Other models | 7,004 | 8,295 |
| Total | 464,391 | 486,532 |
Energy storage deployments were 13.7 GWh.
"Other models" is the Cybertruck, the Semi and the last Model S and Model X inventory, per Electrek's breakdown of the report. Model S and Model X production ended earlier this year, so the line is small by design. The quarter belonged to the Model 3 and the Model Y.
How it compares with the estimates
Going into the report, our Q3 delivery estimates roundup put the company-compiled consensus at 461,974 cars. Individual calls ran from 421,758 to 482,000, per Electrek, with JPMorgan at the top.
Tesla cleared all of them. 486,532 is above even the highest published estimate, and it is the second quarter in a row in which Tesla beat consensus by a wide margin. In Q2 the gap was about 74,000 cars, which we covered in Tesla's best Q2 ever.
The production number tells the same story from the other side. Tesla built more cars than it sold in the first quarter, then delivered more than it built in both Q2 and Q3. Clearing inventory while beating estimates is the combination every carmaker wants.
Up from Q2, and the year so far
- Against Q2 2026: up 1.3% from 480,126 deliveries.
- Against Q3 2025: down 2.1% from 497,099, which is still Tesla's best quarter ever. Electrek notes that quarter was lifted by buyers rushing to beat the end of the US federal EV tax credit on September 30, 2025, so it is a high bar to match.
- Year to date: 1,324,681 deliveries through three quarters, up 8.8% from 1,217,902 in the same period of 2025, per Electrek. Tesla's first-quarter report put Q1 at 358,023, and the three quarters add up exactly.
Energy storage: 13.7 GWh
Storage deployments rose to 13.7 GWh, up from 13.5 GWh in Q2 and up 9.6% from a year earlier, per Electrek. Analysts had pencilled in 15.9 GWh, a figure that would have topped the 14.2 GWh record from Q4 2025, so the record waits another quarter. The ramp behind it keeps building: Megapack 3 production in Houston is the factory to watch for the next step up.

The earnings call is where margins on the newer, cheaper trims, the energy business and Robotaxi progress get their airtime. The delivery number has already done its part.
Our take
Line the three quarters up and the direction is clear: 358,023, then 480,126, then 486,532. Tesla has beaten consensus twice in a row, worked its inventory down while doing it, and is 8.8% ahead of last year with a quarter to go. That is a company selling everything it builds and then some.
The mix is the other story. Two cars made up 98% of the quarter, and that focus is why the factories can run this hard. It also means a lot of driveways now hold the same Model Y or Model 3 in the same handful of colors, which is exactly why owners reach for Paint Shop. The car on your screen is the one part of a new Tesla that doesn't have to match anyone else's.
