Tesla app 4.61: Supercharger Site Maps, passkey sign-in, and a camera share for support

The Tesla app got a genuinely useful update this month. Version 4.61.0 began rolling out on September 18, according to Not a Tesla App's release notes, and its headline feature fixes one of the small annoyances of road trips: pulling into a busy Supercharger without knowing which stalls are free.

Here is what's in it and how to use each piece.

Supercharger Site Maps

Zoom in on a Supercharger in the app's map and the view now switches to a Site Map: an overhead layout of the site showing each stall, which ones are occupied, and what kind of vehicle is charging at each. The map also shows physical obstacles, so you can see before you arrive whether the open stall is the awkward one behind the pillar.

Coverage is broad from day one. Not a Tesla App reports that the maps cover the vast majority of US Supercharger sites and are live in Canada too. The feature started as a pilot at 18 locations in California and Texas in 2025, and Tesla's team in Buffalo has been adding more than 300 sites a week since.

A few details worth knowing:

• It's automatic. There's no toggle. Zoom in on a supported site and the Site Map loads, replacing the standard map tiles for that location.
• The car has a richer version. The in-car screen shows the same maps in rotatable 3D. The phone version is a top-down view you can zoom.
• Cybercabs show up. In Austin, where Robotaxi runs commercially, the app draws Cybercabs at the sites where they charge. The phone is actually ahead of the car here: the vehicle software doesn't render the Cybercab model on Site Maps yet.

For a road trip, this changes the last five minutes of every charging stop. You'll know which end of the lot to aim for before you turn in.

Passkey sign-in

Passkeys headline the 4.61.0 release notes. Tesla began bringing passkey sign-in to the app in the late-August release, and 4.61.0 makes it the official way to secure your account. A passkey replaces your password with a credential that lives on your phone, and you confirm it with Face ID or Touch ID. There's no password to type, and nothing a phishing page can steal, because the secret never leaves the device.

To set it up, open the app menu, then Profile > Security & Privacy > Sign In Management, and add a passkey. The next time you sign in, your face or fingerprint does the work.

For an app that can open your car and start it, that is exactly the kind of security upgrade you want.

Camera share for support

The third piece is quieter and very practical. Text in 4.61.0 describes a camera share for support: while you work through an issue with Tesla, the app asks whether you'd like to share your phone's camera with the representative, who can then see what you're looking at and guide you through a fix. The prompt makes the scope clear: the rep will only see the camera to guide you. Tesla hasn't announced it formally, so expect it to appear as support starts using it.

Anyone who has tried to describe an unfamiliar warning light or a charge-port latch over chat will appreciate it.

What else is in the code

Not a Tesla App and TeslaNorth also spotted strings that aren't live yet, including an Optimus entry treated as a home Energy product with its own charger, and new Tesla Electric sign-up fields for Australia. Those are hints, not features, so we'll wait for Tesla to switch them on.

The app keeps absorbing jobs

This is the same direction we noted with app 4.60.5: each release moves another task out of the car, the service center or a web browser and into your pocket. That includes wraps. Since the summer update, the app uploads custom Paint Shop wraps directly under Creations > Wrap > Upload, so the whole design-to-car workflow can happen on your phone.
